This half-day workshop will explore the long tradition of still life painting, and we’ll cover basics of color harmonies and composition in oil. Our subject: beautifully composed dish that we will have the chance to eat ourselves after the painting session is over.

All that Shimmers: Painting Gold & Silver in Oil

Learn how to create the illusion of metallics in your oil paintings during this half-day workshop. Luxurious textures of silver, gold, bronze and gems will be broken down into a palette of color-recipes and brushwork techniques. We will paint and view the beautiful jewelry designs of local San Miguel jewelers, who will also share the story behind their work.

Learn the nuances of looking that will help you create portraits that really resemble the person you are drawing. Discover different ways of drawing from a photograph for accuracy in the likeness of your portrait.

10 Steps to Drawing Anything

The class for people who can’t draw. Begin with the basics, then learn to draw faces, people, landscapes, or anything! When’s the last time you exercised the right side of your brain? Bring some balance into your cerebrum with this drawing class for all levels. Custom scheduling available if you can’t make all 3 days a week, students work studio-style at their own pace on projects. RSVP in advance, class filling up fast!
Most materials included, just bring a sketchbook, pen and pencil day one.
Portraits in Oil
Wednesdays in March and April (no class April 12)
$500 pesos per class, pay-as-you-play, model fees included
Oil painting is made for the portrait. We will learn the proportions of the face, color mixing basics for portraits in various complexions. Learn both a painterly, loose approach and how to use glazes for delicate and realistic effects. Some materials included.
Students in this class are invited to show their work in a student show at the end of April
$300 pesos per class
Life drawing with a nude model. We begin, in the classical approach, with short timed drills and then work up toward longer held poses of 20 to 30 minutes. Vine charcoal recommended but bring whatever medium you prefer, occasionally we will have other mediums on hand to experiment with.
